Twiter is free Internet service, a system microblogs, allowing users to send short text notes (up to 140 characters), using the web interface, SMS, instant messaging services or third-party software clients.

Initially the project was conceived as an opportunity to respond to one question: "What are you doing now?". Posts in Twiter immediately displayed on the user, and can be instantly delivered to other users who have subscribed to receive them. Delivery may take place via this site Twiter, instant messaging services, SMS, RSS, email or through a Twiter-client.

Twiter is often used for the transmission of news both personal and societal values:

  • April 10, 2008 Buck, James (James Buck), while a student of journalism at the University of Berkeley, and his translator were arrested in Egypt for photographing against the Government. On the way to the police station Buck was able to pass the word "arrested" 48, and his correspondents on Twiter. This message was immediately transferred to the University and the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and some of the media. As a result of these actions for Buck's was hired a lawyer and he was released from prison Mahalla very next day after the arrest .

  • Study the magazine New Scientist confirmed the superiority of Twiter over conventional media.
